The 2026 World Cup continued with debuts in Canada and then in the US, as two of the host nations were involved in entertaining matches featuring more than one goal.
US 4, Paraguay 1
The US national team opened its 2026 World Cup campaign in fashion with a 4-1 win over Paraguay, in a match it controlled for long stretches while showing impressive attacking quality. The Americans were excellent in the final third, with Folarin Balogun scoring the tournament's first brace and Giovanni Reyna adding a superb late goal.
Canada 1, Bosnia and Herzegovina 1
The other host nation, Canada, drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina after a late equalizer from Cyle Larin rescued a point in its opening match. Bosnia took an early lead and made life difficult for the Canadians for much of the contest, but the host nation's pressure paid off late with a dramatic goal that brought it back into the game.
