Iran's national team issued an unusual message after its group-stage match against Belgium at the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles, which ended in a 0-0 draw. After the game, the team left a handwritten note in the locker room, which read, among other things: "May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations."

The message was published by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran and also referred to the country's historical tradition: "From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast. We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and will leave with dignity."

The players and staff went on to thank the Iranian crowd: "Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality. And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes."

The unusual message comes amid a tense period surrounding Iran's participation in the tournament, which has included difficulties entering the US, movement restrictions and security uncertainty around the team. Iran was drawn in the tournament alongside Belgium, New Zealand and Egypt, and has so far recorded two draws. Its next match will be against Egypt in Seattle.

At the same time, tournament officials continue to monitor the issue of the team's travel conditions, after unusual restrictions were imposed requiring it to enter and leave the US within narrow time frames. FIFA and American authorities are holding discussions about possible easing of the restrictions, but for now the team continues to deal with especially complex logistical conditions throughout the tournament.
