According to a Haaretz report, the Head of the Shin Bet security agency David Zini instructed senior officials in the organization to put the scenario of a possible attack on the southern Israeli city of Eilat at the top of the agency's priorities, and considers the city a security weak point mainly because of its isolated geographic location.
In discussions inside and outside the Shin Bet, Zini warned of a ground invasion into the city from its land borders, particularly from the Jordanian border, and possibly even from its maritime borders.

According to sources, Zini is directing the agency's intelligence units toward the scenario of an attack on the city. However, officials in Israel's security establishment have expressed doubts about the degree of importance Zini is assigning to such a scenario, as well as about the existence of intelligence regarding a planned attack.
The Shin Bet said it does not comment on what takes place in internal discussions.
