Firefighters were working Monday to extinguish a blaze that broke out at the Yevulim warehouse complex used by Strauss and frozen-food manufacturer Tapugan in Sderot's industrial zone, causing a hazardous substance to leak.
Tests conducted at the scene identified an ammonia leak from one of the factories. Authorities subsequently ordered everyone in the industrial zone to evacuate, while the Sderot Municipality instructed residents of a nearby neighborhood to remain inside their homes and close their windows due to concerns over a hazardous materials leak.

The fire broke out at the city's Yevulim complex, where Strauss' savory snacks warehouse is located. The suspected hazardous materials leak originated at a separate facility that is not connected to Strauss. Footage from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from the area as buildings burned within the industrial complex. Firefighters were working to contain the blaze, bring the incident under control and prevent the flames from reaching nearby buildings.
A total of 13 firefighting crews were operating at the scene, with assistance from additional districts. No injuries have been reported so far. Large numbers of Israel Fire and Rescue Services personnel were at the scene, with additional forces on the way.
Strauss said in a statement: "A fire broke out at a warehouse complex in the Shaar Hanegev industrial zone near Sderot, where Strauss' savory snacks warehouse is also located. The warehouse was evacuated and there were no injuries. The incident is entirely unrelated to the company's manufacturing operations, which are not located at this complex."
