Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of the US Department of Homeland Security, raided the Washington, DC, home of progressive Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) Monday, conducting an extensive search of the property.
The US Justice Department confirmed that agents had executed a court-authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. According to sources familiar with the matter, the investigation centers on suspicions of immigration fraud and an examination of immigration documents submitted on behalf of Omar and her family when she arrived in the United States from Somalia as a child.

Investigators are also reportedly revisiting longstanding allegations that Omar married her brother in 2009 to help him obtain legal residency and US citizenship.
Omar's office has strongly rejected the allegations. The congresswoman herself has repeatedly denied the claims over the years, calling them a "disgusting lie" and maintaining that she is the target of a politically motivated campaign by her Republican opponents.
