Israel is set to approve a ceasefire with Hamas following an announcement by US President Donald Trump that a deal had been reached during talks in Sharm el-Sheikh. According to the agreement, the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas is expected to begin on Saturday and conclude by Sunday.
Under the US-brokered peace plan, all hostages held in Gaza will be released and IDF forces will carry out a withdrawal to an agreed upon line. Trump hails ‘great day’ for Middle East and US.
Hamas received assurances from mediators that fighting would not resume. Meanwhile, Israeli and American diplomatic sources say that if the terrorist organization significantly violates one of the Trump plan’s core principles, Israel will be entitled to respond militarily, with American backing.
The Arabic-language Sky News channel reported, citing its sources, that a full ceasefire deal has been reached and includes a gradual withdrawal of IDF troops from 70% of the Gaza Strip, as well as the implementation of a hostage deal.
