The new "witch hunt"

A crisis of confidence is taking hold throughout Israel. More seriously, mistrust is also growing between the head of government, the army, the heads of the Mossad, and the Shin Bet. The scapegoat hunt has intensified and been amplified by all media outlets, which operate without any oversight or ethical standards. Leaks to journalists are pouring in from all sides, with the publication of confidential documents and a complete disregard for national security.

From the beginning of the first millennium, persecutions against those accused of witchcraft and magical practices, particularly against Jews during the medieval Inquisition, resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. Since Senator McCarthy's anti-communist crusade in the United States, the term "witch hunt" has referred to the systematic persecution of individuals because of their opinions, ideology, or membership in a group or political party. In recent years, this phenomenon has become part of the political debate. It is practiced in the media, especially on social networks, and in all election campaigns.

From October 7, 2023, onward, anti-Semites and pro-Palestinian activists, such as the Islamist mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, the MEP Rima Hassan, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who declared without embarrassment or remorse: "his coreligionists who put Jesus on the cross"...Navy Pillay, the new Nobel Peace Prize laureate who endorses accusations of genocide in Gaza, and NGOs like BDS, all spread vague and false allegations and suspicions of ulterior motives, supported by a revolutionary and ignorant populist youth. They target Zionist Jews and accuse them of the faults and misfortunes of others, holding them solely responsible for "all the wars in the Middle East and the genocide of the Palestinian people."

Now, those who condemn Israel are warmly rewarded, while Hamas, responsible for the pogrom against innocent Jews, cries victory…

We whole heartedly commend all those who fight against and denounce this despicable and dangerous charade. How can we not react to this legitimization of antisemitism? How can far-left activists, including many Jewish intellectuals in America and Europe, dare to blindly side with Islamists and thus erase the most brutal massacre since the Holocaust?

Why are the heads of diplomatic missions in Israel not reacting to disinformation, not telling the realities on the ground, and not following the courageous and noble words of the United States Ambassador, Mike Huckabee, a fervent Christian Zionist who frankly expresses the four truths about the conflict with the Arabs and vigorously denounces the inflammatory diatribes of the Islamist mayor who is at the head of the American city with the most Jewish population. On the other hand, we too should respect our judges and our justice system while wisely implementing justified reforms.

However, starting in 2019, with Benjamin Netanyahu's indictment for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, the "witch hunt" became more frequent within Israeli political parties and in the media. The Prime Minister's supporters systematically accuse the Attorney General, legal advisors, and the Supreme Court.

On the first day of his trial, surrounded by several ministers present in court, Netanyahu dared to criticize the judges' injustice and asserted that their ultimate goal was to bring down a right-wing government. Subsequently, in an explosive atmosphere, Justice Minister Yair Levin presented his revolutionary program for judicial reform on television. He challenged the judges' legitimacy and boycotted the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. This was unprecedented in a democratic country.

This reform sparked waves of popular protests, and opposition leaders accused Netanyahu of leading the country towards disaster. Overnight, Israeli society lost its foresight and serenity. Since everything has changed, clashes and quarrels between the right and the left have multiplied while our enemies rub their hands together and prepare their surprise attack against the Jewish state which was finally implemented on October 7, 2023.

A boon for our enemies and detractors. Israeli journalists are taking advantage of the impotence of military censorship and are shamelessly daring to transmit sensitive information to foreign newspapers. A real brainwashing is at play and unverifiable allegations are being spread on social media.

In the current situation and faced with omnipresent threats, we are witnessing a cascade of scandals, failures within ministries and institutions, and a total absence of effective and controlled governance. Even more revolting, we are becoming accustomed to a dangerous phenomenon: no one is held accountable. No responsibility. No accountability.

On the eve of the parliamentary elections, it's normal for readers and viewers to react according to their own political opinions. Unfortunately, they don't really have all the credible information and tools to know who is truly right and who is guilty. Only a thorough investigation led by experts and honorable judges can shed light on all the failings and restore the Israeli nation's confidence in the future.
