"While traveling to Israel isn't in the cards right now, this might also be the best time to plan a future trip," the US-based Travel and Leisure magazine recommended to its readers last week.

Travel adviser Andrea Romano wrote that Israel would become the most sought-after destination for American travelers after the pandemic, as the Tourism Ministry took advantage of the quiet period brought about by the lockdowns and launched several "new and exciting projects."
Firstly, traveling from the United States to Israel will be much easier. American Airlines recently announced it would launch a direct daily flight from New York to Tel Aviv starting May this year, as well as a nonstop flight from Miami to Tel Aviv, three times a week beginning with June.
"Once you arrive, new accommodations will be waiting for you to set down your suitcase and relax," Romano continued.
The Six Senses Shaharut plans to open a 58-suite spa and resort hotel in the Negev on Aug. 8, which will offer camel stables, off-roading, climbing, rappelling, and more.
Soho House plans to open a boutique hotel in Tel Aviv in the spring, to be built within a former convent in historic Jaffa. It will include 24 bedrooms, a terrace, and an outdoor pool.
As for Israel's ancient heritage sites, Romano wrote that "many sites of interest have been renovated and upgraded while tourists were away."
The Tower of David in the Old City of Jerusalem is being renovated under a multi-million-dollar dollar project. The Terra Sancta Museum, also in Jerusalem, is undergoing renovations. The Emmaus Trail is being constructed to allow tourists to hike from the Saxum Visitor Center to Emmaus Nicopolis.
Romano praised Israel's "fastest vaccination campaign in the world" and the government's new strategies that ensure health and safety for travelers.
