Britain's elite SAS special forces has been waging a secret war against the Islamic State in Iraq, and is picking off members of the hardline Sunni terrorist group, UK news outlets quoted a high-ranking British military official saying this week.
The senior commander said that since April 10, SAS commandos have killed approximately 100 ISIS members in a series of battles in the hilly parts of northern Iraq.

Some of the ISIS members killed were British citizens who were identified through DNA analysis, the official said.
The official said that SAS fighters had carried out at least 10 operations against the remaining ranks of the Islamic State. The special forces used sniper fire, artillery fire, and precision strikes by jets and drones, the official said.
Britain has stepped up its anti-extremist actions in Iraq as the country's government weakens. A weakened central government has resulted in many terrorists escaping prison and rejoining their cells, which are hiding in caves.
The SAS forces deployed to Iraq are reportedly receiving help from local Kurdish fighters, who also want to prevent a resurgence of terrorism.
According to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace: "The use of RAF jets and Reaper aircraft to deliver successful strikes against terrorists and their hideouts demonstrates that the UK's defense never sleeps and we will always do what is necessary to protect our people."
