Former Labor MK Hebrew University Professor Shimon Shetreet announced on Monday that he would vie for the presidency next year.
President Reuven Rivlin's term in office is slated to end in mid-2021. The Knesset is likely to elect Israel's next president in May.

Shetreet said becoming president was now "his life's mission," adding that he would bring both his political experience and his international reputation to the role.
