On Saturday, the second day of Israel's second coronavirus lockdown, police handed out over 2,800 fines to members of the public caught violating public health regulations, the Israel Police reported Sunday.
Most of the fines (2,044) were given to members of the public who were out of their homes for activities not exempted from the lockdown restrictions. Another 629 individuals were fined for not wearing masks in public areas, and 37 were fined for violating quarantine orders.
Police also fined nine people who refused police orders to break up illegal gatherings, and four people were fined for providing services to customers not wearing masks.
