The UK and Canada imposed sanctions on Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko and his son, as well as a number of high-ranking officials in the unrest-struck country.
The sanctions list includes a total of eight individuals, who are from now on banned from entering the two countries; any assets they may have in the UK or Canada will be frozen.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the moved as designed as a "clear message" to the "violent and fraudulent regime" in Belarus that "we don't accept the results of this rigged election. We will hold those responsible for the thuggery deployed against the Belarussian people to account and we will stand up for our values of democracy and human rights."
