New research led by Tel Aviv University scientists has identified a total of 32 genes that can cause hearing impairment, a development that carries immediate ramifications for genetic counseling and treatment for the hearing impaired.

In addition, Dr. Zipi Brownstein and Professor Karen Avraham of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at TAU have discovered a new genetic mutation that causes deafness in the members of a single Israeli family.
The research has been published in the journal Clinical Genetics.
