Peacocks are beautiful, but also an invasive species that is causing agricultural damage to New Zealand farms, The Guardian recently reported.
The drop in the local population of natural predators such as possums or ferrets has made it possible for the peacock population to spread around the warmer parts of the country, feeding on farm crops.

Farmers have tried to protect their plantings against peacock predation, with little luck, as the birds are reputed to be both clever and wary of their surroundings.
