Bitan was rushed to Sheba Medical Center in central Israel, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit suffering from respiratory distress. He has not been placed on a ventilator and his condition is stable, medical sources told Army Radio.
Bitan, 60, was diagnosed with the coronavirus last week.
Following his diagnosis, Bitan assured the public he was "fine" and only suffering from "mild symptoms," according to a Twitter post.
