A new coronavirus variant has been discovered in a group of COVID-19 patients in southern Germany, German news outlets reported Tuesday.

The reports said that a new variant had been identified in 37 patients at a hospital in the ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. These 37 patients are part of a group of 73 patients identified in the town over the last week.
The Bavarian television station BR24 reported that samples of the new variant had been sent to the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin hospital in an attempt to examine and understand the new variant.
