"The Egyptian authorities today (Tuesday) opened the Rafah crossing for an indefinite period, for the first time in years," a security official told AFP.
"This is not an ordinary opening. Usually, the passage is open for three or four days (...) It happens when the Palestinian national dialogue takes place in Cairo," he added.
The border opening comes after talks launched Monday in Cairo between 14 Palestinian factions, including rivals Islamist Hamas, ruling in the Gaza Strip, and Fatah, ruling West Bank, ahead of the first elections since 15 years old.
