IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi has demanded military commanders allow career soldiers family time. At a conference attended by senior officers last week, Kochavi warned failure to create a culture in which such soldiers feel comfortable taking personal time off could harm a commander's chances of moving up the military's ranks.

Kochavi first raised the issue in October of last year in a missive encouraging career soldiers to take full advantage of the personal time off afforded to them. Apparently unimpressed with current efforts to this end, Kochavi raised the subject again last week.
Addressing the senior officers, the head of the Israel Defense Forces said, "I don't want to get to a point where we need to consider the implementation of the guidelines on people returning home to their families in the appointment process."
