Once train service resumed after the first lockdown in 2020, passengers were required to use either the Israel Railways site or mobile app to take out a voucher that would grant them entry to a station up to 20 minutes before their train was scheduled to depart. The vouchers were not payment for the trip and did not serve as seat reservations. They were a way for the railway to ensure that maximum capacity in train cars, as determined by COVID regulations, was not exceeded.
Starting Friday, May 6, passengers may enter train stations without vouchers. Masks are still required on station premises and while on the train. Passengers are not allow to eat on trains.
Passengers who have a fever of over 38 degrees C (100.4F), have been exposed to a confirmed COVID carrier in the 14 days prior to their journey, are required to be in quarantine, are coughing or have respiratory problems, who have impaired senses of taste or smell, are not allowed to travel by train.
