Hospitals across Israeli launched a 24-hour strike on Monday following a decision by the Finance Ministry to discontinue funding for some 600 physicians who were hired during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Zion Hagay, chairman of the Israel Medical Association, said, "We have found no other way to deal with the unlimited power of the Finance Ministry. We saw exhausted doctors in 2020. There is severe burnout and post-trauma."
Sources in the Finance Ministry said the strike was "the first shot" in negotiations for new collective [employment] agreements."
