According to a message from the volunteer organization Rescuers Without Borders, a resident of Carmel was driving toward Kiryat Arba when some 300 meters (1,000 feet) before the Bani Na'im intersection he spotted a car parked at the side of the road, from which the shots were fired.
IDF forces identified the car, but when they tried to stop it, the driver ran through a checkpoint. The soldiers fired at the car, but the driver continued toward Bani Na'im.
