Itamar Ben-Gvir, head of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, visited the Temple Mount on Sunday, after obtaining a special permit from the police.

Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai had previously barred the visit – a rare move given Ben-Gvir's parliamentary immunity – citing concerns for Ben-Gvir's personal safety as well as national security reasons.
Otzma Yehudit's chief was assigned a large police escort and made only a short visit to the holy site, during which no unusual incident was recorded.
"I visited the Temple Mount this morning with a police escort, given recent threats," Ben-Gvir posted on social media. "We will never cede the Temple Mount, the most sacred place in Judaism. We demand full sovereignty, raising the Israeli flag her and removing any Waqf element seeking to harm Jews.
"The threats against me only drive me to keep up my activities," he concluded.
