Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke Monday, the first conversation between the two leaders since Bennett took office last month.

According to a statement by the Prime Minister's Office, Bennett thanked Putin for his congratulations on forming a government in Israel and expressed his appreciation for the historic bond between the Russian and Jewish peoples.
The leaders discussed various security and diplomatic issues, and the PM thanked the Russian president for the role his country is playing in maintaining regional stability and for the assistance on the issue of recovering captives and missing Israelis.
Prime Minister Bennett and President Putin agreed to meet soon, the statement said.
