In March, the Haifa District Court overturned a previous verdict sentencing Ivgy to just six months of community service, a ruling that sparked public outcry. The state asked the court to sentence Ivgy to no less than three years in jail. His lawyers, however, said that the actor had already suffered enough and should not face further punishment.
Ivgy has appeared in dozens of films, plays and television shows and is the winner of the 2004 Ophir Award, Israel's top film award.
