Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced last week that his office will appropriate 55 million shekels ($16.7 million) for the Welfare Services Ministry's plan to combat domestic violence, saying the funds would be allocated regardless of the current budget talks.

"We have decided to make the fight against domestic violence a top priority because we understand the needs of the ground," Lieberman said. "This issue cannot wait for the budget talks to concluded and we're sparing no effort to give the Welfare Services Ministry the budget.
"This is an important statement as far as we're concerned – everyone should fight against domestic violence."
Welfare Services Minister Meir Cohen said, "Domestic violence is a serious social problem and dealing with it requires the integration of all relevant public systems. ," said Minister of Welfare Meir Cohen.
"Cooperation between the Finance and Welfare ministries will allow us to help more people in the hope of eradicating this ugly phenomenon."
