Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out against the government on Monday over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying it has been shirking its duty to supply Israelis with enough vaccine jabs just when there is an uptick in cases.

"You should stop focusing on your legislative perks and start focusing on bringing the third vaccine dose to Israelis," he said. Netanyahu, who spoke at the weekly Likud faction meeting, said: "Another two million doses have to be delivered to Israel right now, and we must let Israelis older than 50 get them," he added. "We have already paid for their purchase, this is what we did before the new government took power, and they must be delivered now. This is such a just scandalous," he lamented.
Israel has already begun to inject booster shots to those who are immunocompromised, such as people who have undergone organ transplants and those with immune disorders.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's early days in office have been plagued by a rising number of infections due to the highly contagious delta variant and because, according to some studies, the protection afforded to vaccinated Israelis is less effective six months after receiving their final shot, although the vaccines remain as effective against developing the COVID respiratory illness.
Bennett has urged Israelis to go get vaccinated, saying this will be the most effective way to counter delta, by not letting the high infection rate translate into large hospitalization numbers.
