Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip at the direction of the southern town of Sderot, the IDF said Monday.

The fire triggered sirens in Israeli communities near the volatile border, sending the residents of Sderot, Nir Am, Ibim, and Kibbutz Erez running to bomb shelters.
Local residents heard explosions and saw at least one interception. Magen David Adom emergency services said it had no reports on any injuries in the incident.
