An IDF soldier fell into a deep pit during a military training exercise south of Beit Shemesh and was rescued by the police and the military, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said Wednesday.

The soldier was rescued while conscious and transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A Jerusalem District Police official said that volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda rescue unit, including search, medical and rescue teams, worked with troops from Unit 669 of the Israeli Air Force to during in the rescue.
GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Yehuda Fuchs and GOC Army Headqaurters Maj. Gen. Yoel Strick have ordered a joint task force to investigate the incident.
