A six-month-old girl born with a heart defect was receiving respiratory support, and a two-year-old boy was on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma. The toddler suffers from background respiratory diseases.
Dr. Marc Romain, an expert in ICU medicine and nephrology at Hadassah said that the fourth COVID wave was seeing patients in worse condition, and that patients' condition was deteriorating more rapidly than in the previous waves.
Romain also noted that ICUs were seeing a "high percentage" of young patients and that some patients in their 40s were hooked up to ECMO machines.
