Bathing season at beaches across Israel officially concluded on Tuesday following some eight months of activity at 157 beaches. Throughout the fall and winter seasons, 78 beaches will remain open.

Throughout the eight-month bathing season this year, 248 people drowned while swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, the Sea of Galilee, swimming pools and water reservoirs, 40 of them fatally compared to 43 the previous year.
More men than women drown; 69% of people who drowned and received medical treatment as a result were men. Half of those who drowned were infants, children and teenagers up to 19 years old.
