Chief Rabbi David Lau, who serves as president of Israel's highest rabbinical court, on Thursday took a stringent stand against Religious Services Minister Matan Kahana's proposed reforms to the conversion process.

In a statement, Lau said he would do everything in his power to fight the proposed reforms and called on rabbis to work together to prevent the reforms being passed.
"The details of the proposed framework include widespread destruction and serious harm to the national conversion system. Implementing the framework would be a spiritual disaster and a major blow to the Jewish character of Israel," Lau's statement read.
