The man, Jamil al-Kayyal, 31, was believed to be armed and was evacuated by Red Crescent paramedics. Palestinian media reported that he was declared dead at a nearby hospital shortly after the incident.
In response to al-Kayyal's death, the Fatah movement in Nablus declared a general strike and a day of mourning. Al-Kayyal appears to have been a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's armed wing.
