The recent cold wave that hit Israel brought significant rain and snow to Israel, but also saw a jump in the number of fires.

Since the start of this winter, the Israel Fire and Rescue Services have handed 73 events – 20% more than last winter. January 2022 has seen 61 fire events, compared to 57 in January 2021.
According to the Fire and Rescue Services, the cold kept more people indoors for longer periods of time, leading to more use of unsafe heaters and electrical meltdowns.
