A new memorandum of understanding was announced by Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) and the Republic of Chad on Wednesday on the a range of issues relating to the environment.
According to the official announcement, the MoU was signed during a visit by a delegation from Chad, headed by ICT & Digital Economy Minister Idriss Salah Bachar,
"Facing desertification and the challenges of climate change, the Republic of Chad is experiencing many agricultural and ecological challenges arising within its borders," the statement read. "This cooperation will promote and implement technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and capacity building between KKL-JNF and the Republic of Chad."
According to the organization, the "MoU intends to highlight specific areas of collaboration in the fields of water resources, forestry (including tree nurseries and seed banks), and combatting desertification" and will include sharing of knowledge to help combat climate change using "watershed management, sustainable agriculture techniques, arid and semi-arid land afforestation methods, professional training, and the knowledge to develop local seeds species."
KKL-JNF is considered one of the world's oldest organizations that promote environmental improvements and sustainable development. KKL-JNF is active in more than 55 countries throughout the world and works in cooperation with many governmental and non-governmental bodies to further common environmental interests. Avraham Duvdevani, Chairman of KKL-JNF said that "one of the goals of KKL-JNF is to help and contribute to the world for a better future," adding that "whoever asks us for assistance, we will always reach out to assist and offer all the vast knowledge and experience available to us."
