Yevgeny Shapovalov, one of the best-known opera singers in Israel died Saturday at the age of 54. Shapovalov reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack while on a trip to Thailand.

The tenor sang in a variety of styles, collaborating with popular music and folk artists alongside his work at the Israeli Opera.
In 2009 he left Israel, over heavy debts he had accumulated. Shapovalov has been living in the United States in recent years.
Details of his funeral have yet to be released.
