According to the university, the purpose of the initiative is to help cope with the increasing shortage of doctors in Israel.
Prof. Uriel Reichman, the founder and president of the university, said: "The [medical school] will work in collaboration with all other medical institutions in Israel and with the Health Ministry, and we will bring Israelis back home who are forced to go elsewhere to study [medicine] in foreign institutions."
