The Miami Herald took the prestigious award in breaking news for its coverage of the Surfside condominium collapse in Miami last year and the Tampa Bay Times won in the investigative reporting category for their investigation of toxic hazards inside Florida's only battery recycling plant.
The New York Times won three prizes, for national and international reporting. Futuro Media was given the top award for audio reporting. In feature photography, a team of Reuters photographers including the late Danish Siddiqui, who was killed last July while on assignment covering the war in Afghanistan, won the Pulitzer for coverage of the coronavirus pandemic's toll in India.
The public service award went to The Washington Post, for its account of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots, "providing the public with a thorough and unflinching understanding of one of the nation's darkest days," the Pulitzer Prize committee said.
