The Joint Economic Committee (JEC) last took place in 2009.
Lapid has Regional Cooperation Minister Esawi Frej with promoting the issue. Frej confirmed the details and told i24NEWS reporter Adam Habib Allah that he is scheduled to meet with Palestinian Economy Minister Khaled Al-Assili "in the coming days" in order to set a date for the summit sometime in the next two months.
The summit has not convened in over a decade due to a reshuffling of responsibilities among the government ministries.
Officials in Frej's office said that former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had refrained from re-launching the summit, but Lapid, since becoming interim prime minister earlier this month, had helped the process along significantly.
Frej noted that this move could kickstart the Palestinian economy. Since becoming minister in 2021, he has stated that he intended to revive the committee.
The Paris Protocol of the Oslo Accords, signed in 1994 between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, stipulates that the JEC summits be held to regulate economic relations between Israelis and Palestinians.
