On Oct. 7, 2023, dozens of terrorists infiltrated Kibbutz Nahal Oz from the northern Gaza Strip. The terrorists broke into homes, slaughtered residents, and murdered entire families. At least 35 kibbutz residents were killed, and dozens more were abducted to Gaza.
In the photo, Ben-Gurion can be seen planting a tree in the Asaf Shmichoni Forest near Nahal Oz in 1959, eight years after the founding of the kibbutz. Beyond its ecological significance, tree planting was and still is a symbol of combating desertification and establishing roots in the land.
