The Diplomatic-Security Cabinet will convene Tuesday at the demand of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, with the topics including the ongoing talks to secure the release of hostages as well as the state of the war in Gaza. Two proposals from the minister are expected to be put to a vote, revealed here for the first time.
The first proposal will seek to secure an American commitment to back Israel's return to combat after a six-week ceasefire, particularly supporting the necessary action in Rafah, making this a condition for completing the deal.
The second proposal will aim to ensure that, as part of the concessions being discussed in Cairo by Israel, there will be no free movement of residents of the Strip from south to north in a way that would allow Hamas to reorganize and maintain its force.
