Next week, a woman will complete the combat track at Sayeret Matkal (Israel's top-tier General Staff reconnaissance unit) for the first time, Israel Hayom has learned exclusively.
The Sayeret Matkal combat track is notoriously long and grueling – many men fail to finish it. Women have been permitted to participate in Sayeret Matkal selection processes since 2024, following the IDF's decision to open additional roles to women in response to petitions to the High Court of Justice.

In March 2024, 17 women passed the Sayeret Matkal selection day out of hundreds who had applied. In November of that year, a woman passed the "gibush" – the IDF's multi-day selection trial – for the first time.
