Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera is set to air an extensive report Friday on Hamas terror mastermind Mohammed Deif. A promotional video for the investigative program "What Is Hidden Is Greater" features a "top secret document" purportedly written by members of Hamas' military wing, discussing the possibility of calling off an attack against Israel months before the Oct. 7 massacre.
The report appears to be another attempt by Hamas and the Qatari broadcaster to portray the Oct. 7 attack as a response to Israeli actions rather than a long-standing plan aimed at mass murder and destruction. Senior Hamas officials have made similar claims in the past, including Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who previously gave an interview to Al Jazeera.

The document, dated Feb. 11, 2023, states that "it was agreed that if the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the prisons cease, Project Fahd will be canceled." Hamas-affiliated media outlets said the meeting focused on preparations for a large-scale attack intended to "deter Israel," while also discussing the possibility of canceling the operation.
The promotional video does not make clear whether Deif authored the document or attended the meeting, as participants were identified only by aliases rather than full names: Abu Ibrahim Yahya, Ali, Saad and Abu Ibrahim. However, the first name may refer to Yahya Sinwar, who led Hamas in the Gaza Strip and was also known by the alias Abu Ibrahim.

The promotional video ends with footage of Deif seen from behind as he moves through the underground tunnel network in the Gaza Strip. The program "What Is Hidden Is Greater" has previously aired footage of Deif recorded before the war, including images of him inside the terrorist organization's operations command center.
