Police are advancing their investigation into the security failures that nearly caused a disaster on a flydubai flight. On Monday, they intend to summon senior Transportation Ministry officials for open testimony.
The two are Avri Cohen, senior director of the Emergency, Information Security and Cyber Division at the ministry, and Dvir Rubinstein, who directs the Aviation Security Operations Center.
Cohen, for his part, had served as a "reserve security officer" for Israeli airlines abroad. Rubinstein, as has been revealed, gave private consulting to foreign airlines.
Flydubai Flight 1073 left the airport in Dubai for Israel on September 30 from the airport in Dubai, headed for Israel. Co-pilot Hamam al-Mamami attacked the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, with an axe. He sought to seize control of the plane and crash it at Ben Gurion Airport.
The heroism of the pilot and of relief air crew members on board, together with determined action by several Israeli passengers, foiled the plot. The plane then landed in Saudi Arabia.
