After an expedited trial in London, a jury convicted Russell Brand of rape alongside three sexual assault violations. The jurors acquitted him on two other rape claims and an indecent assault attempt. Awaiting his Monday sentencing behind bars, the entertainer was told by the magistrate he faces a "significant custodial term" shortly.
Six anonymous women testified regarding incidents between 1999 and 2009. During this era, dating Katy Perry brought the comedian "staggering fame" worldwide.

The victims stepped forward following Channel 4 and The Times London investigations. Brand's defense team claimed this publicity "poisoned the well of justice deliberately" and "fundamentally corrupted" the women, causing a "truly devastating effect" overall.
Conversely, prosecutors responded that the documentary was no "magic force" prompting the accusers to "recast" memories. Rather, it served as a catalyst for sharing trauma that "haunted them for years."
