In Israel’s fragmented political system, neither Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party nor Lapid’s centrist Yesh Atid is expected to capture enough seats in parliament to form a new government. Instead, each hopes to secure the required 61-seat majority in the Knesset, or parliament, with the support of smaller political allies.

There is a stable, Zionist coalition that could be formed right now by Netanyahu, Gantz and Lapid if they would put their more extreme allies aside and join forces. But they will not do so.

An Israeli victory is the only path to peace because it ends the bloodshed and violence once and for all by sending a clear message to the Palestinian aggressor that the jig is up, and they cannot achieve their war aims.

The cost of lives, human tragedy, and crimes against civilians have not been properly addressed by international tribunals.
