India thanks Israel as it fights COVID

Prime Minister Modi is working as a medical soldier, and so are the people, with over a billion stories of courage, service and togetherness.

Like a cloud that has burst, the second wave of COVID-19 has impacted India like no other pandemic. But it goes to the credit of an extraordinary patience, perseverance and togetherness of the Indian people that a billion people on earth have created a billion stories of courage and service where common citizens have come forward to help each other, to become volunteers, to donate plasma and help get oxygen to the patients in need.

Narayan Bhaurao Dabhadkar, set one such shining example to help other patients even though he was 85, seriously ill, admitted in a Nagpur hospital . When he saw a lady with a 40-year-old husband pleading with doctors to admit him despite no beds being available, Narayan offered his bed, saying, "I have lived full life, let this young man be admitted in my place so that he is able to take care of his children."

His insistence convinced the doctors to transfer his bed to the young patient. Narayan died three days later.  Such innumerable examples from various cities, of common, nameless volunteers is powering the fight against COVID.

Narendra Modi, India's prime minister, is personally seeing the arrangements and providing a leadership so much required in such critical times. He is chairing all related meetings gearing up the millions of bureaucrats and social organizations. For example the production and procurement of oxygen.

The world must see the massive number of people the government vaccinated and the great number of beds for the needy patients .

Modi was the first prime minister to impose a 21 days lockdown last year, he made sure to provide $1.27 billion for COVID treatment facilities and he was the first prime minister to provide free vaccines to more than 95 countries. Today when the world is facing earth's worst pandemic, India witnesses a war that's unparalleled. Modi is not only facing a highly prejudiced Western media but a politicized media back home blinded by Modi-hate. He hasn't spoken about it but calmly working as a healer, as a COVID warrior, determined to win. And India is going to win its Covid battle, come what may.

In this crisis time India has greatly appreciated the prompt help from Israel. Whatever time, whatever weather, whatever crisis, Israel is the one country in the world that has come to stand with Indians. Hence no wonder it is called as our soulmate. Thank you Israel.
