French authorities are probing suspected antisemitism at protests against French COVID restrictions. The newspaper Le Figaro reported Tuesday that one woman participating at protest had been seen holding up a sign blaming Jewish personalities for a plot to "fake" the pandemic has been arrested.

On Monday, the office of France's chief prosecutor announced it was investigating reports of antisemitism in the protests against the "health pass," one of Europe's more comprehensive plans to stop the spread of COVID-19 that among other things, requires café and restaurant patrons to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test.  In the past two weeks, the protests have drawn hundreds of thousands of people.

Also on Monday, former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls sent out a tweet that included a picture of a woman holding a sign listing the names of well-known Jewish public figures, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, labeling them "traitors."

Valls wrote that antisemitism was a "crime," and in no way an "opinion." Valls said that antisemitism always returned, and boded it when it did.

"The government, the legal system, and society must not allow this to continue," Valls tweeted.

Some protesters could be seen holding up signs reading simply "Who?" The origin of the question-slogan was an interview that former General Dominique Delawarde, one of the signatories to an infamous "generals letter" opposing immigration, gave to French TV station CNews.

During the interview, Delawarde called the French media a "gang," and when he was asked who he thought was leading the "gang," he responded, "They are a community you know well" – an oblique reference to Jews.
