According to Tehran Times, the production plant – based in capital Dushanbe – will manufacture Iran's new military drone, the Ababil-2, which is said to be able to carry out attacks as well as surveillance missions at a distance of 200 kilometers (124 miles) with a range of 90 minutes.
Ababil-2 is named after the "flock of birds" mentioned in the "Al-Fil" chapter of the Quran.
Now we will be "able to export military equipment to allied and friendly countries and meet national needs to increase security and build lasting peace," commander of Iran's armed forces Mohammed Bagheri said at the inauguration ceremony, and expressed hope for "more cooperation and interaction at all levels of military defense between Iran and Tajikistan."
Bagheri arrived in Tajikistan on Monday where he met the Defense Minister of Tajikistan Sherali Mirzo. The two discussed possible joint military exercises and security threats in the region, as well as cooperation to promote peace and stability in neighboring Afghanistan.
Bagheri also met President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, hailing the "armed forces of the two countries [that] can help Afghanistan establish security and peace by developing military and regional cooperation."
