Iran says uranium enrichment off table in talks with US

In the face of President Donald Trump's threats, Iran is hardening its position and taking the issue of nuclear enrichment off the negotiating table. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said: "We do not fear the enemy's threats. We believe in what we have and are preparing plans for confrontation."

The Iranian regime is not prepared to discuss uranium enrichment in negotiations with the US, the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry spokesman announced.

"Our right to enrich uranium will not be raised in the negotiations. We take Iranian principles in the negotiating process seriously," spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said. "Our technical teams and those of the Sultanate of Oman met to coordinate on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz."

He claimed that "We have no hostility toward any country in the region, including the United Arab Emirates. We are neighbors, and Tehran seeks peace. It is the American presence that places the region in constant danger, and we have criticism of countries that put their land, resources and airspace at the disposal of the aggressors." Baghaei also accused the US of undermining maritime security in the Gulf because of its attacks.

The Iranian spokesman added that there was a new mechanism for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and that coordination was underway between the Iranian regime and Oman on the matter. He also addressed moves at the UN against Tehran: "The draft resolutions in the UN Security Council regarding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz are a scandal. These proposals did not mention the aggressors, and that is unacceptable. The US is acting like pirates. We are documenting the crimes committed by the states of aggression for the legal track."

According to Baghaei, "The new arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz are intended to ensure safe passage and safeguard Iran's sovereignty and natural rights." He also noted that the Iranian regime did not need recognition from any party of its right to enrich uranium.

Baghaei also stressed: "We do not fear the enemy's threats. We believe in what we have and are preparing plans for confrontation. Our demands are clear: the release of all frozen Iranian assets, since they are a right that was stolen from us, and the same applies to the removal of sanctions. Iran cannot give up its rights under any threat or economic pressure. We will respond to any mistake by the other side."
