Iran halts talks with US over Lebanon strikes

As the fighting in Lebanon escalates, Tehran has sent a threatening message aimed at Washington. "We will not tolerate Israel's crimes in Lebanon," a senior security official in the Islamic republic said. US Central Command acknowledged that two Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted overnight after being fired toward Kuwait.

Iran announced that it would stop all exchanges of messages and talks with the US until Israel stops its military operations in Lebanon and Gaza, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported Monday.

According to Tasnim, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, "In light of the continued crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon, and considering that Lebanon was among the preconditions for the ceasefire, and that the ceasefire has now been violated on all fronts, including Lebanon, the Iranian negotiating team will stop the dialogue and the exchange of messages through mediators."

It was further reported that "the immediate cessation of the aggressive and brutal operations by the Zionist regime's military in Gaza and Lebanon, and the need for a full withdrawal of the regime from the occupied territories in Lebanon, were emphasized by senior Iranian officials and negotiators. Until Iran's and the resistance's positions on this matter are met, no dialogue will take place."

Tasnim also said that "the Axis of Resistance and Iran are determined to completely block the Strait of Hormuz and activate additional fronts, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, in order to punish the Zionists and their supporters, and this is on the agenda."

In addition, Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi warned that the forces would not tolerate "the continuation of the crimes in Lebanon," Iran's IRIB news agency reported. In addition, the US acknowledged that American forces in Kuwait intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles fired toward the emirate.

"The aggressive, child-killing Zionist regime exploited the ceasefire and its continued attacks on Lebanese territory to kill more than 3,000 innocent people, including women and children, while Western governments chose silence or support for crimes against humanity," Shekarchi said.

Shekarchi warned Israel's leaders and their supporters that the continuation of what he called "savage crimes" against Lebanon "will not be tolerated by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran." His remarks came after Iranian officials on Monday linked a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israel Defense Forces troops from Lebanon to any agreement that may be signed with Washington.

Meanwhile, US forces intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles aimed at American troops based in Kuwait late in the evening, the US military said Monday, adding that no Americans were hurt in the attempted attack.
